Spring Break Family Fun in the Smokies

Let’s face it…when we think of spring break, the first image to mind typically shows tons of youngsters flooding the beaches and going (to put it mildly) out of control. And for those of us with kiddos and teens, that’s the last thing we want them to experience, whether on vacation or not. Break away from the beachy tradition — spend your 2019 spring break in the Great Smoky Mountains. Family-friendly attractions combined with in-cabin fun will keep everyone entertained and create the perfect atmosphere for a playful, relaxing, and memorable spring break your family deserves!

Constantly rolling in guests and out great big smiles, Dollywood is a staple amusement park in Pigeon Forge, TN. This must-visit park features thrilling rides, musical shows, country shops, Southern eateries, exciting events, and unique attractions. Free fall 20 stories, board a flying elephant, bump cars round the Demolition Derby, and zoom 45 miles per hour on the Lightning Rod! Visit interactive spots, like Eagle Mountain Sanctuary (home to non-releasable bald eagles) and Chasing Rainbows (museum all about Dolly Parton). There’s so much Dollywood fun to be had…and we haven’t even scratched the surface.

Tickets start around $57 for children, $65 for seniors, and $70 for everyone else. The more days you play, the better the deal. And before leaving the park, be sure to grab a few fun souvenirs, such as group tees, ball caps, or cute toys, to commemorate your unforgettable time together at Dollywood!

Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies

While you may not be heading to the beach, you’ll still have an ocean view at Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies — featuring 2 levels brimming with sea life and cute critters from around the world! Gaze as sharks glide past overhead, see schooling fish sway, look closely for the elusive octopus, come face to face with adorable penguins, and help your littlest find Nemo…and Dory. There are also many interactive experiences, such as the Glass Bottom Boat Adventure over Shark Lagoon and the Discovery Center, where you can pet horseshoe crabs and moon jellies! Time will fly by as you embark on an underwater adventure in Gatlinburg, TN.

Aquarium tickets start around $8 for children (ages 2-5), $18 for kids (ages 6-11), and $33 for adults. While tickets can be purchased for the aquarium alone, why stop there when you can visit multiple Ripley’s attractions for a little extra? Stack on 2 additional attractions, like the Odditorium and the 5D Moving Theater, or add all 7 — including the Haunted Adventure, Mirror Maze, the Guinness World Records Adventure, and 2 mini golf courses — for a steal of a deal! You can never have too much fun with Ripley’s…believe it or not!

Ober Gatlinburg

Get ready for outdoor and indoor fun at Ober Gatlinburg, a mountaintop amusement park in (two guesses where) Gatlinburg, TN. Ride the scenic aerial tram to the top, then let the good times never end! Skate or bump cars on the ice rink (offered year-round), soar down the mountain coaster, glide on the 1,800-foot Alpine Slide, meet fascinating wildlife up close, shop until you drop, and dine with majestic mountain views. The kiddos will have a blast no matter where you explore, and they’ll really love rides just their size (even a train!) plus Kiddie Land — a FREE playground!

With so many types of attractions rolled into 1 park, Ober makes ticket purchases a customizable experience. Choose their wristband (around $22 for adults) for full-day access to a selection of attractions or pay for a book of tickets (around $32) to use at select attractions throughout your time on the mountain. You can also purchase tickets for each attraction individually, whatever works best for you! So, grab the kids, pack the camera, and head on over to Ober on your Smoky Mountain spring break.
