Celebrate Christmas in Gatlinburg TN

There is no greater time to be in Gatlinburg than Christmas time! Christmases curled up by a roaring fire, inside a rustic cabin, surrounded by family while listening to Granddaddy read the Christmas story are some of my greatest Christmas memories. Not to mention there is always a chance for a white Christmas! For the days that surround that special day, there are many Christmas Spirit bolstering activities to be found in Gatlinburg.

Trolley Ride of Lights: Now through January 30, there is a new ride in downtown Gatlinburg. This is a guided trolley ride of the beautiful Gatlinburg Winter Magic lighting displays. The tours begin at 6:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m., and 8:30 p.m.  every night except December 3, 24, 25, and 31. Trolley Ride of Lights departs from Mass Transit/Trolley Center at Ripley’s Aquarium Plaza.

Gatlinburg Fantasy of Lights Christmas Parade: On December 3, Kris Kringle will be making a special appearance in Gatlinburg, Tennessee! The red haired star of the 1970’s classic animated holiday TV special will be coming to Tennessee via ICE!! His side-kick Topper the Penguin will be riding with him through downtown Gatlinburg, starting at 7:30. Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town will be brought to life by expert ice sculptors in two million pounds of ice.

The Oscar-Meyer Weiner mobile will also be in this year’s parade. This year’s parade has marching bands and giant helium balloons!

Santa’s Autograph Party: Santa Claus loves Gatlinburg so much, that he has agreed to hold a very special event for the children this year! Do not miss Santa’s Autograph Party!! This great party begins at 6p.m. at the Riverbend Mall on December 3. This is a main viewing area for the parade, so you will already be in position for Gatlinburg’s Fantasy of Lights Christmas Parade.

Christmas on Ice: If you are fortunate enough to be in Gatlinburg on December 4-5, Ober Gatlinburg has a wonderful treat for you. Local skaters will be displaying their talents on ice in a two-day performance at Ober Gatlinburg’s Ice Arena. Come enjoy the spirit of Christmas and the sounds of holiday music, and best of all, it’s FREE!
