Smoky Mountain Wine Tasting

So you know about hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains. You know about shopping the Tanger Outlets and riding the Aerial Tramway to Ober Gatlinburg. But did you know that another favorite activity on a Smoky Mountain vacation involves a smile on your face and a wine glass in your hand? Let me introduce you to wine tasting in the Smokies.

One activity you will not want to miss this spring is the Wine, Dine and Art Crawl, scheduled for April 10, 2015. On this guided and private tour, you will explore the historic Great Smoky Arts and Crafts Community. Participating galleries and wineries will introduce you to their artists and allow you to sample their delicious wines. You will also have a chance to taste some yummy appetizers from local restaurants in the Smokies. The tour begins at 5 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m., and you must be 21 years or older to join in on the fun!

The next day—April 11, 2015—head over to the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts to celebrate the 2nd annual Gatlinburg Smoky Mountain Wine Fest. Beginning at 1 p.m., this festival includes wineries from all over the state of Tennessee. Not only will you be able to sample their wines, but you will also be able to attend sessions about wine making and wine pairing. You must be 21 years or older to attend. Tickets cost $20, which covers your sampling wristband and your very own wine glass to take home!

Finally, be sure to set aside a day on your Smoky Mountain vacation to experience the Rocky Top Wine Trail. Go at your own pace, and enjoy touring five wineries within 12 miles for FREE! Begin your tour by picking up a Rocky Top Wine Trail Passport; receive a free logo wine glass at the third stop as well as a surprise gift after completing the entire trail. Free wine tastings are offered at all the wineries, and free tours of the wine cellars and tank rooms are offered from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Mountain Valley Winery
  • Sugarland Cellars
  • Hillside Winery

The Wine Trail is open every day of the year except Christmas Day. You must be 21 years or older to participate.

Wine tasting is the perfect event to add to your must-do list in the Smokies.
