The Great Outdoors
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a beautiful stretch of mountains nestled between the Northern and Southern Cherokee National Forests waiting to be explored by all those who feel at home in the great outdoors. Hundreds of walking and hiking trails creep through serene valleys, run alongside rivers and creeks, and quietly meander among miles of untouched mountain forestry.

From beginner to strenuous, there is a trail out there waiting to be walked, jogged, or explored by horseback for every level of outdoorsman. Take the easy trail to Laurel Falls and take in waterfall views and glimpses of wildlife. You don’t have to get out of the car to tour the picturesque sites of Cades Cove, snap all of you pictures from the car while driving the 11-mile loop! Looking for more of a workout along with some breathtaking views? Visit the tallest waterfall in the Smokies by hiking the 8-mile, roundtrip hike to Ramsey Cascades. The strenuous trail takes you beside bubbling rivers, up 2,000 feet in elevation, and offers views of a 100-foot waterfall totally worth the hard work.

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park also hosts numerous events to promote environmental and conservation awareness! Be sure to check out our information pages for exciting and educational events such as The Wildflower Pilgrimage, Synchronous Firefly Display, and the new Sugarlands Mountainfest!

Thrills and Adrenaline Rush
Fly up to 50 mph through mountain forests and over river valleys on a zip line course high among the trees with Foxfire Mountain Outdoor Adventures, or test your fear of the undead as you find your way through over 10,000 square feet of haunted hallways and dark rooms in Ripley’s Haunted Adventure! However you prefer to get your blood pumping and senses heightened, you have tons of fun, exciting options.

Take the family for some team building on the class III and IV rapids of the Pigeon River with a day of whitewater rafting, or race through the trees on the side of a mountain around sharp curves in a single-car Alpine Mountain Coaster! After long days of lively, adrenaline-rushing fun, head to your nearby Pigeon Forge cabin for some relaxation in the hot tub and a rejuvenating night’s rest in the homey, comfortable bedrooms.

Theater and Music
In the South, music and show are integral parts of life, especially when food is involved! Pigeon Forge is home to the entertainment built by Southern entertainment icon Dolly Parton. Sit down for a 4-course meal at Dolly Parton's Stampede, where you’ll be serenaded and wowed, bite after bite. There is always time for good food and great company; Dolly Parton's Stampede is one of many dinner theaters in Pigeon Forge. Witness talented professional actors and actresses woo you in a classical theater at Sweet Fanny Adam’s in downtown Gatlinburg, where all the shows are original and some go on to be performed in cities like Las Vegas and New York! And because this is Tennessee, there are plenty of concerts and musical events throughout the year. Check out the Sugarlands Mountainfest, Smoky Mountain Songwriter’s Festival, live shows at Dollywood year-round, and so much more. Even if you don’t have rhythm, you are sure to be tapping your toes at any of these fantastic dinner shows or concerts while visiting the Smokies!

Wine, Beer & Moonshine
Sip on some sweet Tennessee Muscadine wine while rocking in the porch swing on the back deck of your quiet cabin in the woods, or taste some down-south moonshine like they don’t make anywhere else! While most wineries, distilleries, and breweries offer tours and tastings, make it extra fun by getting your “passport” and taking the Rocky Top Wine Trail or the Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge stops along the Tennessee Whiskey Trail! As you stop at each distinctly unique location along the way through Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, you will get a real taste for Tennessee’s finest spirits and wines; once you have visited a certain number of stops, you receive a free gift to commemorate your good time! Not to mention, the Smoky Mountains hosts numerous festivals centered on its distinctly southern spirits like, OktOBERfest, Smoky Mountain Wine Festival, and Hops in the Hills in nearby Maryville, Tennessee!

So no matter what type of trip you’re planning – honeymoon, anniversary, wedding, birthday, reunion, retreat, family vacation, bachelorette party, father-son weekend, and more – head to the Smokies to make it a memorable one. The blend of our beautiful Gatlinburg cabins and Pigeon Forge cabins, family-friendly attractions downtown, distilleries and wineries, live music and shows, unique shops and outlet stores, fine dining and sweet treats, and events for all ages makes the Smokies a go-to year after year.
