If you’ve ever spent time during the holidays in Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge, TN, then you know that no one celebrates and decorates for the season quite like these areas do. Thousands of lights line the streets and adorn the shops, so whether you are walking or driving, you won’t miss this exquisite sight. Here are a few of the best ways to view the Christmas lights in the city:
Trolley Ride of Lights—If you want to rest your feet while still covering a lot of ground, reserve your spot on the Trolley Ride of Lights in Gatlinburg. From November 9th to January 30th, you can soak in all the sights of the city while taking a trip on a classic trolley. The rides will leave from traffic light #5 at 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30 each night during Winterfest, with a few exceptions. For only $5, you can enjoy the magic of the lights throughout the city and along Highway 321.
Fantasy of Lights Christmas Parade –On December 2nd, bundle up and head outside for Gatlinburg’s 36th Annual Fantasy of Lights Christmas Parade. Named a Top 20 Event by the Southeast Tourism Society, the parade offers fun for all ages. There will be marching bands, balloons, floats, and of course, Christmas lights! Over the past several years, the lights program has added $1.5 million in displays, lights and improvements, so you certainly will not be disappointed with this show.
Winter Magic Tunes and Tales –As you walk the streets, listening and watching as traditional carolers in period clothing sing all your holiday favorites, you won’t miss the hundreds of light displays along the way. The highlight of this event is the singing, but the Christmas lights won’t cease to shine, too. From November 25th to December 17th, enjoy the sights and sounds of the holidays along the streets of Gatlinburg.
Sevierville’s Winterfest Kickoff –On November 7th, celebrate the season with free food, entertainment and games. At the end of the night, the annual “flipping of the switch” will showcase the area’s first Winterfest lights.
Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas –For a spectacular show of Christmas lights, visit Dollywood this holiday season. With over 4 million lights covering the park, this is one of the most incredible displays of lights in the Smokies.
When my husband proposed to me, he decided to do it in a place where I would be surrounded by something I really love. It was a truly magical moment, of course because he was asking me to marry him, but also because we were walking along a path lined with Christmas lights. For me, Christmas lights bring happiness, peace, and the warmth of the season. So don’t miss out!
