The holiday marks the day that Mexico was able to overtake the French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862 and is now celebrated in honor of Mexican heritage and pride. Each year, thousands of Mexicans and Americans flock to local festivals, gatherings and parties, decorating themselves in the colors of the Mexican flag and celebrating with friends and loved ones. For years, Gatlinburg, Tennessee has been one of a handful of bustling cities with no organized Cinco De Mayo celebration, but this year Gatlinburg is going all out!<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-445\" title=\"cinco de mayo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cabinsforyou.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/cinco_de_mayo1.jpg\" alt=\"cinco de mayo\" width=\"246\" height=\"298\" \/>Gatlinburg\u2019s favorite eateries and entertainment have joined together to create a Cinco De Mayo celebration to remember. Ripley\u2019s Entertainment, No Way Jose\u2019s, Greystone Lodge, Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, the Gatlinburg Chamber of Commerce and the East Tennessee Hispanic Chamber of Commerce have teamed up to give Gatlinburg it\u2019s very first major Hispanic event in the city!<\/p>\n<p>An all-day affair, the event is to be centered at Ripley\u2019s Aquarium of the Smokies Plaza and No Way Jose\u2019s. Early in the afternoon, school children and families are welcomed to participate in an educational Latin themed celebration. The event will showcase different types of Latin music, food, clothing, crafts and activities. This event will be fun for the whole family, even holding a bust-the-pi\u00f1ata contest and Mexican Hat Dance activity.<\/p>\n<p>From 4-9PM the plaza will be illuminated by the sights and sounds of the festive Mexican culture. Live entertainment will be present, displaying authentic Mexican music and dance.\u00a0 Food and beverage will be abundant, and with the purchase of a $5 armband, you can sample all the food you want! Proceeds from the Cinco De Mayo celebration will go towards benefiting the Gatlinburg Chamber of Commerce and the East Tennessee Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
