If you visit Gatlinburg during the busy season you’ll quickly see that transportation is vital to your trip. Most cabins are not within walking distance of the parkway and traffic can get pretty heavy in our little town nestled in the Smoky Mountains. Deciding whether it’s best to park and walk, ride the trolley, or take a cab can be confusing. So, we’ve put together a list of three transportation options in Gatlinburg.

Most often when you think of wineries, Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee aren’t the first locations that come to mind. But, if you look beneath the mist of the Smoky Mountains fog, you will find they are making wine with a southern twist. The Gatlinburg Pigeon Forge area has four charming wineries that welcome the whole family: Smoky Mountain Winery (Gatlinburg), Mountain Valley Winery (Pigeon Forge), Apple Barn Winery (Sevierville) and the newest addition, Hillside Winery (Sevierville).
The Titanic in Pigeon Forge has announced a fun family activity that will dazzle spectators. On January 22, 2011 The Titanic in Pigeon Forge will play host to some amazing ice sculpturists that will participate in a competition for both professionals and amateurs. Spectators will get to watch as ice sculpturists pick and chizzle their ways to some amazing pieces of art made of frozen water.

Looking for a unique experience in Gatlinburg? While Gatlinburg is a great family vacation location there are some activities that are designated for adults only. On the list of fun adult activities are ATV riding, singing karaoke, visiting wineries, and getting a TATTOO. It sounds a little crazy, but getting a tattoo in Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge is an activity that some enthusiastic visitors choose to partake in. The artistic nature and fun atmosphere of a tattoo studio are exactly what some vacationers need to create the perfect memory of time well spent in the Smokies.

It’s hard to believe it, but it’s true. The first snow has officially fallen in the Smokies. Three inches touched ground on Mt. Leconte on Monday, October 4th. Leconte Lodge staff reported on Highonleconte.com that this was the biggest first snow in over thirty years. On Sunday, temperatures reached a high of 39 degrees and a low of 24 degrees which ushered in the snow the next morning.
Hiking is a wonderful exercise and the best way to see the beautiful scenery of the Smoky Mountains is by “hitting the trail”. Whether you want to do a short trail or a long vigorous one you’ll find what you need in the Smoky Mountain National Park.
