It is no surprise that Valentine’s Day can be one of the most stressful holidays of the year. From crowded Hallmark stores to the overbooked florists, February 14th can be a day that simply makes you want to pull your hair out. This year make the dreaded holiday an exception by avoiding chocolates and flowers and spending a relaxing weekend in Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge, Tennessee instead. Believe us – your sweetie will thank you.
Spend a relaxing day at the spa. Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge have an abundance of salons and day spas, many of which offer Valentine’s Day specials. Enjoy a couples massage or facial, which often include extras such as champagne and chocolate covered strawberries on that special day. So check in with your favorite spa (perhaps The Spa at Pine Mountain) and spend a day being pampered in the lap of luxury – without breaking the bank.
Go out to dinner. The age old standby is nothing new; however, try exploring more upscale restaurants that you would think are normally out of your price range. Valentine’s Day specials are abundant at nearly every restaurant, with many offering a three or four course meal for fewer than fifty dollars per couple (check out The Diner in Pigeon Forge and The Peddler Restaurant in Gatlinburg.) Take advantage of these specials and treat your beau to a delicious meal.
See a show. Though Valentine’s Day is on a Monday, many comedy clubs and theaters offer shows and performances all weekend long. Check out the Murder Mystery Dinner Show in Pigeon Forge, which offers a two in one deal; dinner and a murder mystery show. Or if you wish to take a more humorous route, look into the Smith Family Dinner Show, which offers a more low-key buffet style dinner and a comedy show featuring the Smith Family. Mix up the usual “dinner and a movie” by visiting a theater that offer a new experience for you both.
Take a road trip. Because Valentine’s Day falls on a Monday, it is a perfect excuse to spend a romantic weekend with someone special. Find a destination that the two of you will enjoy, such as visiting the Smoky Mountain Winery or taking a day trip to the Ober Ski Resort. Make the whole trip special by scoping out diners and attractions on your way there that you would normally pass by. That hole in the wall pancake house you’ve always wanted to try? Stop by and give it a review. That cheesy tourist attraction? Check it out! After all, variety is the spice of life, and mixing up the ordinary will be a bonding experience for you and your honey.
Renew your vows. Take advantage of Sweetheart Month at the Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge to re-spark your love in a whole new way. For the month of February, the museum is offering couples a chance to renew their vows on the Grand Staircase, the breathtaking focal point of the Titanic’s ballroom. Every ceremony is presided over by the ship’s captain, and the museum offers several renewal packages which are sure to fit any price range.
Take a mini-vacation. Cabin rentals are the perfect way to spend Valentine’s weekend. Select a secluded one bedroom cabin from Cabins For You, and relax the weekend away by sipping a cup of hot chocolate and enjoying your scenic mountain view. Go grocery shopping the day of your trip and treat your significant other to breakfast or dinner. Make the meal easy and stress free for you – think an omelet or breakfast casserole for the morning and spaghetti or lasagna for dinner. Cozy up in front of a fire, light a few candles, and be prepared for all your worries to drift away!
