dangerous and feeding them or purposely leaving trash
out for them is illegal. Remember that all bears are
dangerous. For yours and everyone else’s safety please
do not approach, taunt, or feed the bears.
Insects and Ladybugs:
Though all units are sprayed regularly by a professional
pest control company, ladybugs, wasps and other insects
sometimes affect rental units. If the bugs or insects
are a major problem please call our office so we can get
the problem taken care of.
A few years ago the National Park Service released
millions of ladybugs into the park to fight a
tree-killing insect that destroys the park’s trees. The
ladybug will eat the food source of the bug that is
destroying the trees. A large population on these
ladybugs are located in the Gatlinburg area.
Occasionally these ladybugs may visit our cabins. Once
the get inside the cabins they cannot locate an exist.
Sadly, the only way getting rid of them is by vacuuming
them up. The park service will not allow you to spray
for ladybugs since they were introduced to fight a
problem. Ladybugs like warm sunny places such as
windows. Even if you remove the ladybugs they will be
back again in hours. A ladybug is a small, harmless,
reddish/yellowish, bug with small black spots. Some
people believe they are good luck bugs. They do not pose
a health threat or cause any harm to humans. We will
continue to remove these critters upon checkout, but if
they appear during your stay please be patient with
them.

Welcome to the Great Smokey Mountains
The dominant geographic and economic feature of
Sevier County is, without a doubt, the Great Smokey
Mountain National Park.
The Great Smokey Mountain National Park is one of the
largest protected land areas east of the Rocky
Mountains. The park has over 500,000 acres of forest and
730 miles of fishing streams. It is also home to 60
mammal species, 20 snake species, 1340 native tree
species, and 1,500 species of flowering plants.
The vegetation in the park is most biologically diverse
in the National Park system. The Smokey Mountain
National Park engages in comprehensive research
programs, such as air quality monitoring, to foster an
understanding of Park resources and how they are
affected by local, regional, and global influences.
The United Nations designated the Park as an
international Biosphere Reserve. The international
system contains over 320 reserves in over 80 countries
with primary objectives of conserving diversity and
coordinating environmental education, research, and
monitoring.
The Smokies also have a rich cultural history. Cherokee
Indians moved into the area about 1000 years ago and
permanent white settlement began around the 1800s. The
coming of the commercial logging operations around 1900
stripped trees from two-thirds of what is now Parkland.
Established in 1934, the park was created from more than
6,000 tracts of private commercial land that was bought
with money raised by public and private donations. |
