Gatlinburg’s Winterfest will continue
to light up the town well into December. Winterfest is
Gatlinburg’s four month celebration of everything having
to do with winter and it turns the city into a beautiful
and bright winter wonderland. Gatlinburg TN will also
help celebrate the Christmas season with its annual
Fantasy of Lights Christmas Parade. This parade will be
held on Friday December 5, 2008 right in downtown
Gatlinburg. Every year the Christmas parade hosts over
100 floats, Santa Clause and his elves, local marching
bands, giant balloons, artificial snow, sparklers, dance
teams and clowns.
Celebrate the beginning of 2009 right
in downtown Gatlinburg Tennessee. Every year thousands
of people visit Gatlinburg for the New Year’s Eve Ball
Drop and Fireworks Show. This large downtown street
party begins at 11 pm and will include dozens of free
party favors, hats, and tiaras for everyone to enjoy. At
exactly 12 am the Gatlinburg sky will light up with
dozens of fireworks and a music show so you can bring in
the New Year the Gatlinburg way. Performers from Hard
Rock Café will entertain everyone as Rich Bailey
provides the music for this late night street party. The
entire city of Gatlinburg will join in this large street
party as many
restaurants and attractions offer special
celebrations.
The Old Fashioned Hayrides continue
for the entire month of December. Bundle up for these
Old Fashioned Hayrides as you sit back, relax and enjoy
the beauty that surrounds you in downtown Gatlinburg
Tennessee. This nostalgic hayrides are full of fun and
offer you incredible views of the Great Smoky Mountains
National Park. On this Old Fashioned Hayride you will
also get to view the thousands of winter lights that
will be on display to celebrate the winter months. Each
Old Fashioned Hayride departs from traffic light #6 and
the rides leave every 45 minutes.
Although not located in Gatlinburg,
Dollywood
has a great winter wonderland that offers more than 3 million
holiday light displays and plenty of Christmas shows,
holiday food and rides for everyone. Dollywood’s main
goal is help you and your family celebrate the Christmas
season together as the area is filled with heartfelt
Christmas show and a premiere of Dollywood’s own Babes
in Toyland stage production. The Christmas Pyramid
reveals beautiful Nativity carvings and towers 45 feet
above Dollywood. Dollywood’s Parade of Lights is a daily
parade that features Christmas floats, and famous (and
favorite) holiday characters. Kids just love Tinker the
Talking Christmas Tree. Tinker is the star of Christmas
karaoke and will let you choose the holiday song and
even gather around to sing along. Celebrate Christmas at
the Back Porch Theatre with an Appalachian Christmas.
Make sure to stop by for Christmas in the Smokes, which
is a holiday musical tradition which will feature a
twelve member cast and a band performing favorite
holiday tunes. Many other shows are available at
Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas so do not miss out
on this annual event.
Do not forget about everything else
in downtown Gatlinburg such as
Ober Gatlinburg. Skiing
is a very popular activity for visitors and the Ober
Gatlinburg ski resort is just located at traffic light
number ten. You can ride the aerial tramway or drive and
park at the resort but it is enjoyable to spend a full
day skiing, snow boarding and ice skating at the indoor
ice skating arena. Skiing, snowboarding and ice skating
equipment will be available for rent so grab the family,
bundle up and join in together for some winter fun in
the snow, or on ice.
