Fall in the Smoky Mountains

Fall officially began on September 23 and the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains are the perfect place to see fall begin. The first few weeks in the Smoky Mountains, after fall begins, can determine just how beautiful the area will be in October. Fall in the Smokies is the best time to enjoy, bright, sunny, and breezy days and cool nights.

During the first two weeks of October leaves will be at their peak colors. The remaining weeks in October present Smoky Mountain visitors with the very best of colors for a beautiful scenery. Guests enjoy the beauty as the sugar maple, scarlet oak, sweet gum, red maple, and dogwood trees fascinate everyone with their vibrant colors. Most of the Smoky Mountain visitors do not question as to why the area is so colorful in the fall, they just enjoy it.

Fall colors can be found anywhere in the Smoky Mountains. As a matter of fact you don’t even have to be in the Smokies to enjoy the beautiful fall colors. Just outside the Great Smoky Mountains you will start to be welcomed by the unforgettable colors of fall. A lot of visitors to the Smokies would actually rather take alternate routes to avoid the traffic in downtown. One popular route would be the quiet drive through Cades Cove, which is one of the most popular spots in the area.

Cataloochee, which is on the eastern side of the Park, is less crowded any time of the year because it is farther away from the most traveled roads in Gatlinburg TN. Cataloochee is on the North Carolina side of the Park and is a little harder to reach than any other spot in the Smokies. It is certainly worth the drive to Cataloochee and it’s a new experience for anyone who comes to the Smoky Mountains.

It doesn’t matter where you go in the Smokies, any time in the fall is a wonderful time. Just remember to start your trip early so you won’t be behind the crowds.
