Don’t be a Stalagmite, Visit the Tuckaleechee Caverns

Gatlinburg TN and The Tuckaleechee Caverns has so much history behind them. According to legend of the Caverns, the Cherokee Indians knew of the Caverns and hid in them before the white man discovered them around 1850. Written reports tell of the discovery of the caverns by white man about the middle of the 19th century when sawmill workers watched water from a heavy rain pour into a sink hole in the area. The hole was filled with debris but one of the men found an opening in the rock and made his way to what is now the entrance of the caverns. And it all started from there.

The caverns were opened to the public for a year in 1931 and then closed because of the Depression. As young boys, W.E. “Bill” Vananda and Harry Myers of Townsend played near the entrance to the caverns and frequently ventured into them. While students at Maryville College in 1949, they got to talking about the feasibility of opening the cave to the public. They opened the cavern soon after that. Now open to the public as part of the mile-long guided tour, the big room is more than 400 feet long, 300 feet across, and 150 feet deep.

Popularity of the Caverns has grown from 2,000 visitors the first year to an average of over 50,000. It is one of the 700 known caves in Tennessee.

After your trip through the wondrous caverns of Tuckaleechee, come on over to a Gatlinburg cabin from Cabins For You. The Louise Mandrell Theater in Pigeon Forge TN

Visit the highly acclaimed and well-renown Louise Mandrell Theather in Pigeon Forge TN! The most attended show in the smokies, Louise Mandrell puts on a spectacular sight for all to enjoy. Her new multi-million dollar production sizzles under the spotlight with new costumes and new sets. Louise and her talented cast and orchestra will entertain you with music from Country, Blues and Rock 'n Roll to Big Band, and Gospel. Colorful 15-foot puppets lead the way to a spectacular finale with confetti and a balloon drop.

The set design and layout has completely changed since the theater opened in 2003. New lighting cues were put in place, and a new wardrobe of costumes was brought in from New York. Set designer Rick Stetson, who Weiss refers to as the "best in the country," even worked with scale models of the theater to hone just the right visual presentation for Mandrell's songs. A few elements of Mandrell's previous show are being incorporated into the new show but have been retooled to stay current with the times. For example, her tribute to the military now encompasses everyday heroes like firefighters and policemen.

Louise Mandrell is extremely versatile. She is practically a one-woman band, playing everything from fiddle to drums to bass, and even dances with such ease. Her supporting cast expounds upon her fantastic performance. The show makes its last lap with a wide-open throttle as Louise and cast turn the theater into a party zone. A final flurry of high-energy songs and dance numbers culminate with a shower of balloons and confetti that rains down on the audience.

The theater can seat 1400 people, and is located on the Parkway in Pigeon Forge near many cabin rentals. The number to the theater is (865) 453-6263 if you have any further questions.

After your wonderful and visually-impressive show at the Louise Mandrell theater, head on over to a cabin in Pigeon Forge.
