Ripley's Aquarium in Gatlinburg Tennessee
The Ripley’s Believe It Or Not
Aquarium is located too close to your
Gatlinburg cabin rental to miss. It is a fun
adventure for the entire family. There are many exhibits
and activities for people of all ages. It just recently
has added a tropical rain forest exhibit which features
thousands of exotic fish and animals. One of the most
popular exhibits is the shark display. Visitors can get
up close and personal with many different shark species
including hammerheads and tigers. You may notice some
unique characteristics about a lot of the animals on
display. The
Ripley’s Aquarium will be like no other you
have visited- for Ripley’s tries to find the most unique
exhibits- all of them are different from the norm and
stand out above the rest.
The idea behind Ripley's started in
1890 when Robert Leroy Ripley was born in Santa Rosa,
California. Robert led an interesting life. At age
sixteen he played semi-professional baseball and sold
local artwork. A couple of years later he began selling
cartoons to
Life Magazine. After injuring himself and ending his
baseball career forever while trying out for the Giants,
Ripley began to travel the world. Along his journey he
wrote down interesting things he thought were
fascinating. In 1933 he opened his first auditorium in
Chicago, Illinois. Viewers from all around came to see
the original displays. He continued opening auditoriums
all over the world for the next ten years. He died on
May 27, 1944. Many remember him by his famous museums,
haunted houses, and aquariums that are world wide. The
Ripley’s Aquarium in Pigeon Forge greatly reflects
Robert’s interests as well as his love for unusual
things. He always gave credit where it normally would
not have been given.
Teachers love bringing their
classes to the Ripley's exhibits and allowing them to
have a first hand look at all the exciting exhibits.
