One of the best times of year to visit the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is during the fall when the leaves begin to change and the air has a slight chill. The rolling hills, quiet streams, sunset colored leaves and grazing wildlife are a perfect backdrop for a relaxing mountain vacation. And while the Smoky Mountains offer plenty to do in the great outdoors (think biking, hiking, swimming, horseback riding…), few things – barring simply lying in a hammock – are as relaxing as a day of fishing.
On Saturday and Sunday, September 29th and 30th, grab your poles, your waders and your favorite fishing buddy, and be a part of the 13th Annual Smoky Mountain Trout Tournament. Open to all ages, this family friendly event has categories for adults, children, locals and visitors. It’s great for a father/son weekend, some quiet time alone, or for the entire family.
Before the tournament begins, over 10,000 trout will be stocked in more than 20 miles of streams in the Great Smoky Mountains. The tournament will begin at sunrise on Saturday and go until 4 pm. that day. It will begin again at sunrise on Sunday and end at 2 pm. Just participating is a ton of fun, but there are also some great prizes and drawings, including:
$500 for the largest trout
$500 for the smallest trout
Hotel accommodations, amusement park passes and more!
All in all, there will be more than $10,000 in cash and prizes at the largest trout tournament in the Smokies. It will be a great time for all in one of the most beautiful places in the country. Spend the weekend next to cool mountain streams; go home with great memories and maybe some great prizes!
