5 Winter Activities in the Smokies

1. Ski or snowboard at Ober Gatlinburg. Located on top of the mountain in downtown Gatlinburg is Ober Gatlinburg, a winter wonderland of fun in the Smokies. Make the most of your time on the mountain by skiing or snowboarding when you visit Ober. The slopes usually open sometime in mid-December and close sometime in early to mid-March. Open season depends entirely on the weather, so check back on the skiing & snowboarding page of their website before you make plans to visit. You can also check this page for session times, ticket prices, and rental fees. And even if the slopes aren’t open when you visit, you can always enjoy another wintertime activity at Ober Gatlinburg: ice skating! The rink is actually open all year round, but it’s especially fun to skate in the winter when you’re already bundled up. And ticket prices stay pretty reasonable for this attraction—only $9 per session, including your skate rental.

Tubing Now Open at Ober Gatlinburg

Get ready for the some in the fun in the winter sun on the slopes of Ober Gatlinburg! As of Saturday, November 21, 2015, snow tubing is open for all visitors. Tickets are selling quickly, but there’s plenty of fun in store for your friends, family, and kids at Ober Gatlinburg!

Late November brought lots of sold-out weekends for snow tubing, so if you’re planning on hitting the slopes, be sure to get to the ticket office early. Tickets are sold in person only and can be purchased for sessions occurring the same day or sessions up to 3 days in advance.

At The Island in Pigeon Forge, there are always new things popping up. From restaurants and attractions to mini rides and shops, you’re likely to find something new each time you visit. One of the newer attractions at The Island is an exciting new experience called The Escape Game. Teams of two to eight people will be locked in a room, only escaping when (or IF) they are able to decode the secret messages, uncover clues, and solve a series of puzzles. You only have 60 minutes to try to escape! This hands-on experience is great for friends and families, getting you out of the cabin and outside of your comfort zone.
