Extreme Activities in the Smoky Mountains

While some are relaxing beside a cozy fire or slip in and out of consciousness in a hammock overlooking the beauty of nature in one of our Gatlinburg cabins, others are chomping at the bit to get out and experience the thrills life has to offer! If you are a thrill seeker, do not think that there is nothing for you in cozy Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Whitewater Rafting

Whitewater Rafting: There are few things in life that provide a rush like being at the mercy of untamed nature. Outfitters in the Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge area have guided tours down the various rivers. There are twelve Class III and three Class IV rapids on the Big Pigeon River alone! Rafting in the Smokies, Nantahala Outdoor Center, and Smoky Mountain Outdoors are just three of many companies that offer these tours.

Rollercoaster: If rollercoasters are what make you scream with delightful fear, then check out Dollywood. Here you will find steel as well as wooden rollercoasters.

The Pigeon Forge Sky Scraper: The Sky Scraper is the tallest, fastest portable ride ever built. It takes its riders 160 feet off the ground. A 75-hp, three phase motor is what sends the long arm spinning. At top speed you will be spinning at seventy miles per hour! For those more interested in G-force than mph, at the top you will be pulling two Gs and four Gs at the bottom of your rotation.

Off Road Tours: For a different type of treat on your vacation to Gatlinburg TN you must try out the Hummer tours at Off Road Voyages. It’s a different spin on exploring the Smoky Mountains. The Hummer tours at Off Road Voyages take you through trails in the mountains and around the scenic parts of Gatlinburg. This voyage is 1.5 hours long. You can’t get this kind of tour anywhere else near Gatlinburg TN.

Canopy (Zip Lines) Tour: We didn’t choose one specific company for this extreme activity (there are several places in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Sevierville). Rather, we just wanted to mention it as an activity that must be tried. Ziplining in the Smoky Mountains is quite fun. It works for almost the whole family (some exclusions apply including young children.) If you have never zip lined before, you should consider zipping around Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge TN.

If you are a thrill seeker, there is a thrill for you in Gatlinburg, Tennessee!
