The Best of the Best in Gatlinburg

Whenever I travel, I love to eat, shop, and play local. I love finding the best cupcake, the most unique shop, or the burger joint that locals swear by. In Gatlinburg, TN, specialty shops, local restaurants, and one of a kind entertainment is not hard to find. If you’re looking to really soak in all the great things that Gatlinburg has to offer, here are some restaurants, shops, and activities that top my list as the best of the best in town.

The Best…

caramel appleHand-dipped chocolates. At the Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen, you will find the most delicious taffy, candy apples, and hand dipped chocolates. Whether you like brown bears, peanut butter cups, or chocolate covered marshmallows, this long time favorite has it all. (744 Parkway)

Cigars. Named Zippo Lighter’s Retailer of the Year, the Gatlin-Burlier Tobacconist has the finest custom blended tobacco, locally carved pipes, and a walk in humidor. (611 Parkway Suite D1)

Pottery. Since 1983, Alewine Pottery has been creating beautiful and functional pottery. With an emphasis on color and leaf impressions from the Gatlinburg area, these unique pieces are some of the best work you will find in the Great Smoky Arts and Crafts Community. (623 Glades Road)

Sizzling Steak. For great prime rib and steaks cut tableside, The Peddler Steakhouse is the perfect place in town. A tourist and local favorite, they also offer fresh trout, grilled tuna, and a huge salad bar. (820 River Road)

Kids’ Gifts. At The Lollipop Guild, you will find fully customizable books, music, and cartoons, as well as kids’ toys and Webkinz. This is really one of the most adorable shops in town. (631 Parkway Suite B3)

BBQ. With award winning baby back ribs, grilled chicken, catfish, sandwiches, and steaks, Calhoun’s Restaurant offers a little bit of something for everyone. The menu will make your mouth water, and your plate won’t disappoint. (1004 Parkway)

Entertainment for all. If you’re looking for something that will please the whole family for hours, Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies is perfect! They have a new $5 million expansion (the Penguin Playhouse), an underwater tunnel beneath an incredible shark exhibit, an interactive stingray area, and daily dive shows. Ripley’s is rated America’s #1 Aquarium! This is a great activity for kids, couples, teens, and adults. (88 River Road)

Tall stack of pancakes. Gatlinburg certainly has a plethora of pancake places. But the Pancake Pantry is the best in my book. Breakfast is served all day, and there are dozens of unique and delicious pancake flavors. There are the best and fluffiest pancakes around! (628 Parkway)
