If you're up for a thrilling ride on the Pigeon River then you should consider whitewater rafting with Rafting in the Smokies. While rafting on the Upper Pigeon, you will experience an amazing ride that will test your skills. With 12 class III rapids and 3 class IV rapids, you are sure to enjoy this rafting trip. You will be able to witness the wondrous scenery on the trail of the Big Pigeon River. On your trip down the river you will be accompanied by a guide that will help you through any obstacle. There is no experience necessary to take this amazing 2 hour trip. So do something out of the ordinary and go whitewater rafting. For anyone ages 8 and up or 70 lbs.

If you want a rafting adventure that's a little more low key, Rafting in the Smokies also offers a regular Float Trip on the Lower Pigeon. The rapids on this trip stay around classes 1 and 2, but you still get a guide to help you navigate the 6 mile journey. This is a good choice if you're traveling with younger children (ages 3+).

To find their Reservation Office, go to traffic light 3 in Gatlinburg and turn on to HWY 321 north, travel 1 1/2 mile, the office is on the left OR continue on 321N to their river outpost to. Once on the 321 N, travel to 32. Take a left on 32 until you reach Foothills parkway. Take the parkway until you get to I-40. Take I-40 E and take the first exit #447. At the stop sign, you'll see the outpost across the street on the left! If you're coming from a different direction you can call 1-800-PRO-RAFT and they will help you with directions.

To be prepared...

  • Be prepared to get wet. They recommend shorts and a T-shirt or a swimsuit.
  • It is required that you wear a pair of shoes/deck shoes/river shoes. You cannot wear flip flops or raft bare foot.
  • They raft rain or shine.
  • Bring a towel and a change of clothes.
  • Find other arrangements for jewelry as cold water can make them fit loosely
  • For your safety, no alcoholic drinks before you raft.
