History Ronald S. Ligon's
dream became a reality on August 13, 1960 when he opened
a new attraction in Gatlinburg TN called Christus
Gardens. Ronald Ligon selected the location in
Gatlinburg TN on River Road by following the advice of a
man named Pritchard Barnes. When Ronald originally
came to this quaint resort town, he had wanted to
purchase a motel or some land for building a new motel.
When Barnes showed Ligon the land on River Road, Ligon
new this was the place for a great memorial attraction.
A large number of skilled craftsmen, artists and writers
from in this country and internationally set out to
create dramatic action scenes that would help capture
moments of Biblical history.
